Drawn for a very special fan, Joey.
Thanks to everyone who has followed this blog and supported my work this past year. I had no idea this would be the case when I took the Tumblr plunge, but making “personal” art pieces to post on here forced me to grow as an artist and has fed back into my “professional” work, and it has inspired me for the possibilities in my future endeavors. I deeply appreciate it, and hope you got something worthwhile out of this blog too. A huge thanks to all of the incredible artists I follow on here for the invaluable inspiration, and to the ATLA and LOK fans for all the spirited fanart, GIFs, cosplay, etc. You guys help to fuel us through the crazy process of bringing animation to life.
I wish you all the best in 2013. Happy New Year!
Hey, folks! Are you all frustrated that Nickelodeon still hasn’t released a soundtrack from Avatar: The Last Airbender? I know I am! Well, one solution to this problem is to join an orchestra and perform Jeremy Zuckerman’s beautiful scores yourselves!
The New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra performs ‘Peace’ from ATLA.
This made me teary-eyed, partially due to hearing this particular piece of music again, but also because this amazing group of people dedicated their time and talents to this. Great work!
;___; RIGHT IN THE FEELS
Driving home from work earlier this week, I saw this incredible cumulus cloud emerging from the twilight sky above the San Gabriel Mountains and I resolved to try to paint it. It seemed like the kind of moment in nature upon which Aang would meditate.
I love when creators go back to their old characters an grace us with things like this ;A;
More old stuff while I’m buried in new stuff. This was the rough for one of the last DVD covers I did in 2008. As usual, the rough was a lot cooler than the finished piece.
My first time through AtLA, I didn’t give Aang much thought. He was a cool main character, but I didn’t think too much about it. Digged the overlying Buddhist themes and morals he lived by, but that was about it. Third time through AtLA, and I am convinced Aang is the most amazing character that has ever been written in ANY piece of fictional work, ever. I don’t know why it took me three runs of the series to finally appreciate how amazing Aang’s character was written, but now that I have, Aang is officially my favorite everything.
As I’m sure you’re all aware, this was one of the most obvious sexual innuendo’s in the entire series.
HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS
